Isabelle Omerod

Roboticist and Saxophone Player

Isabelle Ormerod is a PhD Candidate, taking part in the FARSCOPE (Robotics and Autonomous systems) PhD Program. Her research focuses on utilising data-driven techniques to help inform human factors and human-centred design. Her current research project investigates the efficacy of multi-modal techniques to gather product interaction insights.

In her previous industry experience, she worked as an applied sciences engineer, working in simulation, engineering physics, early concept development (rapid prototyping and design sprints) and human centred design for 22 of the top 40 pharmaceutical companies. Prior to this she worked alongside factory line workers within the sensor development industry to ensure simple assembly processes, reducing risk and error for product development.

Before Women in Robotics UK, Isabelle led a company-wide EDI Task Force, organising EDI training, auditing processes for inclusivity, and delivering outreach workshops to first-year undergraduates. During her undergraduate she directed the ‘Scrap Head Challenge’, inviting students to use recycled materials to create new product concepts. This earned her the ‘Crown Packaging Prize’ for exceptional initiative in engineering endeavours.
